Yesterday was my best day so far in this challenge. I got a great start, had a great workout and finished 4 pomodoros by 8am. People were literally just waking up when I finished writing my article in Mcdonalds…
I practically finished the important things I needed to do before 11am. How can I say that? Isn’t productivity just making ourselves do more and more tasks that we can fit in with our already scarce time? For me, after years of understanding and experiments, I see productivity differently now.
So much of this productivity thing is based on what you “intend” to accomplish in the day.
That’s why I have goals at the start of the day. As long as I hit those, I’m happy
Shit happens throughout the day and sometimes, we can’t stop them. People demand your attention or tasks just suddenly pop ou especially in a startup environment. As much as I stop, delegate or try to schedule requests on a different day, the reality is, things get through. Having a list of things you need to accomplish at the start of the day gives you that sense of satisfaction at the end of the day so you’d feel motivated to start the next day.
Speaking of which, since yesterday was a great day, I wanted to test something different.
What if I slept at 12:30am? How’d my body react and more importantly, how would my mind?
So, I went out, had the car washed and had a quick massage. Came home around 12am and I was literally feeling how heavy my mind and body were. By 1230am, I was on the bed and sleeping.
THE ALARM WENT OFF.
I woke up at 4:15am, went to the bathroom, thought about taking a Snap for a little bit… then went back to sleep.
WTF!
I woke up again by 5:17am according to that screenshot.
A bit too late for the challenge.
That got me thinking. I woke up at 4 already and even went to the bathroom. Normally, when you stand up and walk around, you’d actually wake up…but what happened?
I could see 2 reasons.
- I was already feeling ultra tired before I went to sleep. My head was heavy AF. It might be my mind’s and body’s reaction telling me I needed more rest.
- I normally think about what I was going to do once I wake up so when I do wake up, I’d immediately know that I need to go, go, go. Last night, I wasn’t able to do that. I also noticed that I wasn’t thinking clearly the first time I woke up, which is probably why I ended up going back to the bed.
12:30am bedtime experiment = failed.
Seems like my max time right now is 11:30pm bedtime.
Anyway, it’s time to start the day. I’m already behind schedule, haven’t gone to the gym yet and I have lots of things that I need to accomplish today because of the coming vacation time, starting tomorrow.
